  • August 9, 2000 (V) - A beautiful roll cloud after line of severe thunderstorms in Henrico County, west of Richmond along Broad Street at 7PM. A few minutes later, I observed two roll clouds (V) which is very unusual. The video was broadcast on NBC Channel 12 in Richmond.

  • August 11, 1999 - Storm chase account with storms near Portsmouth and Croaker, Virginia. Wall cloud, hail and wind.
  • March 3, 1999 (V) - Storm near Waverly, Virginia that has formed a wall cloud. Another view of the wall cloud (V). These are not tornadoes! The storm became more linear (V). Look for the possible shear funnel though I couldn't verify rotation. Here is a closer view of the possible shear funnel (V) highlighted by red arrows.

1997

Pictures and chase accounts in 1997 are from a two week period with Charles Edwards of Cloud 9 Tours . I would not recommend storm chasing and photography without first learning to do it responsibly and safely. The May 24 and 25 listings link to separate pages with detailed accounts and many pictures of tornadoes and other storm features.

  • May 28, 1997 - At approximately 6:35PM, we saw a distant storm feature in Texas, ?west of Plainview. It appeared to be a large wedge tornado (V). We were too far away to see rotation and the feature vanished. Here are two other video stills of it: ?tornado pic#2, ?tornado pic#3. It may have been a downburst, and upon further examination, unlikely to be a tornado. We later observed a beautiful supercell (p) with an unusual nonrotating cloud projection at 7:35PM. We continued west and in northern Bailey County at 8:15PM, we watched a large storm that looked like flying saucer(V).
  • May 26, 1997 - Account and photos/video stills of the tornado outbreak south of Tulsa, Oklahoma including the Beggs and Preston tornadoes.
  • May 25, 1997 - Account and photos/video stills of the Harper and Anthony, Kansas tornadoes, supercell development and the Perth (Dillo-Cam) wedge tornado.
  • May 24, 1997 -A video still of an approaching shelf-cloud in southwestern Kansas. We drove ahead of the storm and joined a chaser convergence as many storm chasers gathered to watch the sun set behind the storm
  • May 23, 1997 -A beautiful picture showing an approaching shelf cloud in Gray Co, western Texas. After viewing old tornado damage in Pampa, we watched a distant storm before heading to the Big Texan in Amarillo.
  • May 18, 1997 - Video still of a wall cloud at night in Kansas. Another closer view of the wall cloud. The storm may have earlier produced a brief tornado.
