National Storm Chaser Convention

Denver, Colorado 2014

The National Storm Chaser Convention (ChaserCon) was held in Denver, Colorado on February 14 - 16, 2014. Over 400 people attended the sold out conference. I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new storm chasers. The emphasis this year was on the tragic El Reno storm and the importance of safety. As usual, the speakers were very good including Mike Bettes and Dr. Greg Forbes of The Weather Channel, Jon Davies, Dr. Howie Bluestein, Tim Marshall, Dr. Chuck Doswell, Dr. Jason Persoff, and Chris Novy. At the Saturday night dinner, there was a detailed analysis of El Reno tornado and the events surrounding the deaths of Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras and Carl Young by Marc Austin and Gabe Garfield. There was also a poignant tribute by the meteorologists and by Tim's widow and Carl's father in law.
