Kenya Safari 2009

In September 2009, my wife and I had the opportunity to go on safari in Kenya. We observed an amazing variety of animals across beautiful and wild landscapes. Our safari route began at Mount Kenya Safari Club and nearby Sweetwaters before heading north to Samburu. We ended the group portion of the trip in the Masai Mara during the Great Migration. After a few days of luxury camping, we continued on our own to the Ark in the Aberdare Mountains and ended our vacation at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. Every day was filled with new adventures as we searched for animals. Picking a favorite part of the trip is difficult. Highlights include watching a leopard stalking wildebeest, lions chewing on a kill, a mother cheetah guarding her cubs, the herds of zebra and wildebeest wandering across the savannah and spending time with the giraffe at Giraffe Manor. I also enjoyed learning about the Masai and Samburu peoples in their villages.

This trip was ultimate luxury in the bush with impeccable service, great food and comfortable accommodations. I loved the Abercrombie and Kent mobile tented camp in the Mara. I've never been in a tent with king-sized bed, running water and shower! At the Ark, one could enjoy drinks and gourmet dinner while watching animals come to the adjacent watering hole and salt lick. Finally, my wife and I were able to wake up and eat breakfast with giraffe at the wonderful Giraffe Manor. Our trip was organized through AAA Mid-Atlantic and Abercrombie and Kent. Below are a few of almost 35 gigs of digital images that I took on the safari. I'm too lazy to post all my good shots.
